miRNAs regulate development and function of regulatory T-cells in recent onset islet autoimmunity in pre-Type 1 diabetes

Simranjeet Kaur, Flemming Pociot

Abstract

T1D is an autoimmune disorder resulting from selective destruction of pancreatic β-cells by the immune system. Abnormal immune responses triggered by environmental factors result in pancreatic β-cell loss and insulin deficiency in genetically susceptible individuals (1). Non-coding RNAs including microRNAs (miRNAs) have been shown be important participants in T1D pathogenesis.
